To create a large storage unit at ABP Ipswich
Situated at the head of the River Orwell, ABP Ipswich is a mian shipping port for the North Sea Shipping Lanes. The client required a building suitable for crop storage for stock coming into the docks prior to distribution out of the port. Having designed and fabricated the structure we then mobilised, within a short time frame, to meet their end of year (December 2018) hand over. The project also required us to design, calculate and install a 0.5m high surface mounted concrete ring beam that the steel framed building is positioned on. The structure is 20m x 70m with an eave height of 9.5m, single skin walls with single skin roof c/w anti-condensation film. Part of the specification remit was to ensure two principle requirements: darkness – to stop/reduce germination of the barley and anti-condensation – to prevent “internal rain-drops”, again to stop/reduce germination of the barley.
