De Boer creates pitch perfect auditoria in super quick time for the UK International Festival for Business 2016

International Festival of Business

De Boer recently constructed high-end auditoria and meeting spaces for around 2,000 people at the Liverpool International Festival for Business, which was held at Exhibition Centre Liverpool.

Although on a huge scale, De Boer built in total over 3,000 square metres of auditoria space using a combination of its signature Delta and Alu Halls structures.  What distinguished this project from the norm was :-

·       The speed of build required, within a compressed time period essential for the client

·       The main auditoria suite needed to be built in just 48 hours

·       All auditoria needed to deliver exceptional acoustic qualities to enable sound separation between neighbouring events.

Mical De Boer, De Boer’s Director, commented:

“This was a very prestigious event, and one requiring an extremely rapid build and dismantle to work around the busy schedule at Exhibition Centre Liverpool.

One of the key aspects to De Boer’s successful result for the IFB2016 was the use of its innovative Acoustic Barrier Mat system, which Mical describes:

“The De Boer Acoustic Barrier Mat system has a proven track record in improving the acoustics of both the interior and exterior of structures.  This is especially important when you’re working on a vast scale, with meeting spaces side by side within the network of auditoria.  We had to ensure C-level business conversations and presentations can take place comfortably and securely, without interrupting other business taking place in close proximity.

“At the International Festival for Business, we incorporated our new demountable acoustic wall solution, which, whilst adding to the pressure of the schedule, required immaculate planning and timing to deliver, enabling us to double the size of the auditoria, by the removal of the dividing wall for specific key-note speakers demanding a much larger audience.  I’m thankful we worked with great people at Liverpool Vision, Adlib and Innovision without whose focus and dedication these special Events such as the largest business festival in the UK and arguably internationally in 2016, would not be able to take place.”

As part of the International Festival for Business 2016, Her Majesty the Queen officially opened Exhibition Centre Liverpool.  There were many more VIP visitors including both the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne MP, and key business leaders including Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO WPP plc.

Over the course of the three-week Festival, the De Boer team reconfigured the interior space, often overnight, for the individual events & exhibitions, within a floorplan, conceived by Liverpool Vision and hosted within the exhibition centre including the ‘GREAT British Showcase’; the ‘Wireless Global Congress’; and the BT sponsored conference ‘Accelerate 2016’; plus a range of networking and business suites.

Organised by Liverpool Vision working in partnership with the GREAT Campaign and Department for International Trade (DIT) the Festival was attended by thousands of delegates from in excess of 100 international countries and provided a lively setting for events, networking and deal-making.

Philip Southward, Head of Operations for the International Festival for Business at Liverpool Vision, commented:

“The International Festival for Business in 2016 was the signature business event for the UK.  We experienced an unprecedented level of dignitaries and business leaders coming to Liverpool from all over the world allowing us to build upon the success of IFB2014 and to prove, yet again, what a great place Liverpool and the United Kingdom is to do business.

“De Boer were one of our strategic supply partners and integral to the success of the IFB2016, they were great to work with from day one, working with professionalism, speed and precision to deliver a high impact, high quality network of auditoria that provided the Festival with the ability to host over 70 events throughout the three weeks in a top quality, professional environment.  We look forward to working with De Boer again in 2018, when we will use our experience and partnership with De Boer in 2016 to deliver an even more exciting Festival.”

Tom Lechthaler, Assistant Director (Events) at The ACC Liverpool Group, home to Exhibition Centre Liverpool, BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, commented:

“It was a pleasure working with the De Boer team on this project. As a result of the team’s effective project management, all contractors, often 200 to 300 at a time, had access to the site during the build, re-configuration and dismantle phases, ensuring the project was completed on time without visitors or a single member of the public knowing about the activity behind the scenes.”

Andrew Gall, Senior Technical Production Manager at creative experience agency innovision, commented: “Several different teams working together on a complex build in an enclosed space and to a tight deadline? It was a case study in what great collaboration, cool thinking and hard work can achieve. Everything went like clockwork to deliver a highly professional result.”

Housing 'the roots of design': De Boer at Decorex International 2016

United Business Media (UBM), recently created the exhibition space for Decorex International 2016 using the experience and resources of De Boer, including a new grand entrance using the signature curved roof Anova Pavilion.

The prestigious luxury interiors and design show returned to Syon Park, the London home of the Duke of Northumberland, to provide an elegant and historic backdrop for the event and this year covered the theme of ‘The Roots of Design’.

New for this year, De Boer constructed one of its curved roof Anova structures to create the impressive entrance into the show. With specially engineered horizontal vista glass panels and a 5-metre integrated canopy, the new structure created a dramatic and eye-catching entrance to the exhibition, including a feature curated by renowned furniture designer Tim Gosling.

Two 50 metre wide De Boer Jumbo Halls were used to create the main exhibition space for Decorex International 2016, which attracted over 12,000 visitors across 4 days eager to explore ‘the roots of design’. To encapsulate this theme, the Jumbo Halls housed some of the main centrepieces of the show, including the Champagne Bar, devised this year by the designers at 1508 London and the popular Future Heritage exhibition curated by design & arts critic Corinne Julius.

With over 400 exhibitors across the four-day event, De Boer provided structures spanning 19,000 square metres which included the main arena, restaurants, auxiliary structures and the exhibition entrance.

In addition, an Alu Vista accommodated the beautifully situated Syon Estate Restaurant in association with Country Life, alongside the Decorex Café in association with HK One, both overlooking Syon Park Lake. Other catering offers were placed in 2 Akropolis structures housing Decorex’s luxury street food markets.

John Cochrane, Sales Director – Events at De Boer, commented on creating the exhibition space:

“Decorex International is always a hotly anticipated event for interior designers looking for luxury design inspiration, and we relish the challenge of creating a space which reflects this heritage. It has been a privilege to work alongside the innovative designers at Decorex, the UBM team and the famous architecture of Syon Park.

“We are really proud of our long lasting partnership with UBM; through innovation and involvement we continue to work together on projects to achieve outstanding results for the client each time.”

Kerrie Kemp, Group Operations Manager at UBM, added:

“The De Boer team has been incredibly effective in helping us to map this year’s exhibition structures and the introduction of the new curved Anova structure really added to our impressive entrance. We’re already looking forward to next year’s exhibition, and hope to be able to innovate once more.”
