Open de España
The Open de España, formerly known as the Spanish Open, is the country’s national golf championship. Founded in 1912, it has been part of the European Tour since the tour began in 1972.
Perfect conditions for a successful outdoor event
The tournament is traditionally held in April or May, when Andalusia is at its most beautiful and temperatures are most pleasant. All in all, conditions are perfect for a successful outdoor event. Some of the biggest names in golf have participated in the tournament, including Arnold Palmer, Severiano Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer and Nick Faldo. Ireland’s Peter Lawrie was victorious this year, leaving behind runner-up Ignacio Garrido only after a thrilling play-off that is certain to go down in history as one of the most exciting ever.
