Structured solution to prison crowding
De Boer are working with the UK Ministry of Justice to deliver innovative quick-build solutions for re-locatable custodial accommodation for use within prisons in England and Wales.

The modular facilities can be dropped into existing establishment or, alternatively, form the basis of a larger scale new-build facility where house blocks can be created that include necessary regime space, education facilities, offices and plant rooms.

On site efficiencies

Factory manufacture of modules allows for a significant element of off-site fit-out of furniture, electrical equipment, plumbing and related control gear, ensuring that on-site delivery can be carried out with minimum disruption to the Establishment.

Improved programme, minimised risk
Efficient delivery of completed modules enables De Boer to minimise the number of crew required on site (and therefore requiring security clearance), whilst also reducing the amount of tools and plant required – all of which may pose a risk to an operational prison.

The certainty created by specifying De Boer’s modular prison solution reduces the risk and cost of programme over-runs and delivers custodial spaces, adding to the overall prison capacity.

Innovation in Modular Prisons
De Boer’s latest generation of modular custodial units reflect the increasing requirement for improved insulation, reduced running costs and efficient heating and lighting solutions and it is anticipated that these will deliver BREEAM Excellent.

The speed of implementation, the reduction in on-site preliminaries and related costs and the reduction of whole life costs mean that De Boer are capable of delivering cost-effective solutions with a life expectancy exceeding 60 years.
