De Boer 'sails' around the World with Volvo Ocean Race

The Volvo Ocean Race, the longest sailing race in the world, has commenced in Alicante, Spain on Saturday October 4th. De Boer, the leading international supplier of temporary structures for events and business applications, supplies two specially prepared VIP hospitality pavilions for the main sponsor Volvo that will follow the race around the world. The Volvo Ocean Race visits a total of 11 international ports, and lasts until the end of June 2009 when the teams cross the finishing line in St. Petersburg. 

Unique Emperor structure
Ahead of the race, a team from De Boer will travel to each of the stopover ports to build up the Emperor hospitality pavilion for Volvo. This is a unique temporary structure that consists of wooden and aluminium elements. The luxurious accommodation, with a surface of 500 square metres and designed in accordance with Volvo’s house style, is used to accommodate the many guests and business contacts from Volvo during the stopovers. In Alicante De Boer has also provided a Double Decker structure and an Alu Hall for the Russian team, and has provided additional hospitality space for the Telefonica team. 

The Volvo Ocean Race is by far the biggest corporate event where Volvo is involved. Björn Brännberg, head of Corporate Events at Volvo, explains why the choice for De Boer: "De Boer is a solid and reliable company with substantial international experience and an excellent reputation. The Volvo Ocean Race takes more than 9 months and covers 39,000 nautical miles. In addition to 7 'in-port' races, the race further consists of 10 race stages.
