De Boer overcomes logistical challenges to create actors camp in the middle of the desert

Qatar is certainly making its mark on the global stage. Not satisfied with having officially become the largest producer of LNG in the world, bought up half of central London and won the bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2022, this tiny Arabian peninsula is now setting its sights on Hollywood.

The Doha Film Institute (DFI), Qatar’s first international organization dedicated to film appreciation, film education, and to building a sustainable film industry in Qatar, has just started filming the $55million epic feature film, Black Gold starring A list Spanish actor, Antonio Banderas, which is one of the biggest cinema projects to be inspired by the Arab world.

De Boer was asked by DFI to provide temporary accomodation for hundreds of actors who were on location in the middle of the desert, 20 km from the nearest road to be exact, shooting some exciting battle scenes. De Boer provided approximately 2,500 sqm of accomodation using a mixture of Alu halls and Peak structures to create this much needed logistical base for DFI. The camp consisted of a range of different spaces that were used for a variety of purposes including make up rooms, cafeterias, storage facilities and VIP accomodation for the stars.

Logistical Challenge
Building a camp in the middle of the desert proved a huge logistical challenge mainly caused by the soft, undulating sand which made the transportation of material quite tricky. But De Boer was able to find a solution to this problem. By using a large front shovel and a lot of sweat it meant that materials were delivered successfully and the camp has proved an outstanding success.

Flexibility
Being able to find a solution to overcome such a huge operational hurdle is another example of De Boer's unparalleled flexibility, determination and commitment to client satisfaction - all of which makes us an obvious leader in the field.
