Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
The flexibility of our concepts is very well illustrated with the construction of a baggage handling facility at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The implementation of more stringent safety and security regulations required Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to reconstruct its baggage handling halls. For Amsterdam Schiphol Airport it was impossible to keep construction activities going, while dealing with the seasonal peaks.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport needed an alternative area for baggage handling operations and De Boer delivered the most effective and effi cient solution. We did not only take care of the structure, but also arranged for additional office space, heating, lighting etc. All these elements are integral parts of the full turnkey service that you may expect from De Boer. The facility, measuring 55 by 70 metres, was in use for a total period of four years.
Doha, Qatar International Airport
De Boer offers fl exible solutions all over the world. The ambitious Doha International Airport required additional temporary luggage handling facility, in order to keep pace with rapidly growing passenger numbers. De Boer delivered a semi-permanent facility of 3.500 m2 (35 x 100 m.), including a climate control system, lighting solution and high speed electrical doors. Qatar Airways, which manages the airport, requires this extra space during peak periods.
In Qatar 50C is not an exception during summer. These extreme climate conditions require robust solutions. Therefore the construction is equipped with insulated sidewall panels, creating a suitable barrier to keep cool air inside. The high speed industrial doors make it possible to keep cool air inside, while luggage handling equipment moves around. All these elements are integral parts of the full turnkey service that you may expect from De Boer.
Cardiff International Airport
Cardiff International Airport, one of the UK’s most important regional airports, is rapidly expanding. Cardiff International Airport now handles around 1.9 million passengers a year. For use during major refurbishment works, De Boer created a temporary baggage handling facility. The airport has also been provided with a temporary entrance area and foyer.
These structures remain on site for about six months. 400m2 of temporary covered fl oor space links directly to permanent buildings at the airport. The constructions have been fi tted with transparent panels for maximum light and are sub-divided to offer separate staff and passenger space. The company’s work at Cardiff has been welcomed by the airport’s senior management.
Operations Director Graeme Gamble: “Airports are challenged with providing the best possible
customer experience even when faced with rapid growth. De Boer’s solution has enabled Cardiff International to meet this challenge, providing an attractive temporary environment just when it was needed.”
