De Boer provides party structures for Rail Link party
4 October 2007
De Boer has supplied temporary accommodation for a massive party to celebrate the completion of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. 13,000 square metres of accommodation
The company provided 13,000 square metres of temporary structures for London & Continental Railways beside the embankment just north of St Pancras International station in London. The party for 2,100 people connected with the project, was held on 19th September, 2007, two months before the new high-speed link opens to the public on 14th November 2007.
Exciting building challenge
De Boer Project Manager Ross Robertson says: “To construct a structure this size in the heart of central London has been extremely exciting and a wonderful challenge. It shows just how innovative the De Boer team can be.”
Deltas offer the answers
A total of 550 working days were needed to create the structures over three weeks. A massive Delta structure standing nine metres tall was flanked by two smaller Delta structure annexes. The complex was also linked to a big Alu Hall covering an area of more than 3,500 square metres.
Dinner and exhibition venue
The complex of structures played host to a dinner, exhibition and musical performance by members of the cast from West End hit show “We Will Rock You”. Guests were also treated to a fireworks display outside.
A trusted structure partner
The event was organised by LCR and co-ordinated by John Quartermaine of Future Events Ltd. John says: “De Boer offered the best service and the structures used are perfect for what we needed. On a task this size you need someone you can trust to deliver the project.”
Ground-breaking structure designs
Ross says: “A project this size demonstrates what De Boer can offer, from ground-breaking designs to wonderful teamwork between office-based logistics teams and the crews on site. It’s been great to be a part of it all.”
Largest-ever construction project
The new track is the first railway line to open for 100 years and is Britain’s largest-ever single construction project. The track passes over the River Medway, under the River Thames and through 11 miles of tunnels beneath London.
