De Boer creates structures for another flower show spectacular
26 April 2011
Structure specialist De Boer will reinforce its credentials in the horticultural world next month when it provides the spectacular centrepiece for the ever-popular RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Mighty covered hall
The company is due to begin work on April 28 as it once again erects the world-famous horticultural event’s Great Pavilion – a mighty covered hall offering 12,000 square metres of exhibition space.
Five-day show
By the time the five-day show opens on May 24 the huge area will have been transformed into a dazzling home for plants from across the globe, with species from – or inspired by – countries as diverse as Columbia, Rwanda, Taiwan and Borneo, as well as the Himalayas.
Specially modified structure
Brackley-based De Boer, which is supplying to the world-famous floral extravaganza for the 12th successive year, will create the Great Pavilion by linking two of its large, modular Delta System structures via a specially modified A-frame structure. The vast space will offer show organisers a single exhibition area equivalent in size to two football pitches.
Thousands of visitors
This year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show promises to be another scintillating success for its organisers, the Royal Horticultural Society. Staged in the grounds of Chelsea’s historic Royal Hospital, the event will once again attract exhibitors, as well as many tens of thousands of visitors, from across the globe.
Great Pavilion
The gathering is due to feature 17 show gardens, 15 smaller gardens and around 100 of the world’s best growers and nurseries. However, De Boer’s huge Great Pavilion promises to be one of the key attractions, offering an incredible A-Z of the world’s most beautiful flowers, with acers, agapanthus, alliums, aquilegias, auriculas and azaleas just for starters! It will also feature an impressive display of 180 varieties of cut-flower tulips ranging from 1600 to the present day.
A-frames, Chalets and Pyramids
De Boer’s involvement in the 2011 show will extend to the supply of a range of additional structures such as A-frames, Chalets and Pyramids, for facilities including hospitality pavilions, on-site catering and staff offices.
Exhibits from across the world
Kate Morrison, De Boer’s Key Accounts Manager, said: “Visitors to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show routinely see stunning exhibits from across the globe. But with floral displays from as far afield as South America and the Himalayas, this year’s event truly promises to offer a world of colour all under the same roof!”
Modular Delta System
De Boer first introduced its modular Delta System structures to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2000 when organisers ended the decades-long tradition of exhibiting flowers under canvas.
Technological know-how
After erecting two separate Delta structures for four successive shows, De Boer used an A-frame structure – and its technological know-how – to link the two exhibition halls for the first time in 2004. The innovation created the Great Pavilion, which now forms an integral part of the annual event.
